Puttur: Inquiry urged into Naushida'kidnap case'

Puttur, Oct 1: Local residents are demanding a thorough investigation into the alleged kidnapping case of a Naushida, whose claims were reportedly proved to be false and baseless.

Meanwhile, Puttur MLA Shakunthala Shetty has said that directions have been given to the police department to file case against those who tried to tear the social fabric keeping this case as a background.

Addressing the reporters at Kombettu Government PU College, Ms Shetty said that the kidnapping case was an attempt to disturb the communal harmony in the region.

“I am holding a responsible position and hence I want peace and harmony in my constituency,” she said adding that inquiry will be held into various aspect of the case including the influence behind Nausheeda's statement, the persons who had contacted Nausheeda, the persons with him Naushida has contacted and also about the people who made hue and cry about the issue to create cacophony.

Ms Shetty said that the police is also finding out the whereabouts of a particular'Malayali' from Kerala, that Naushida had mentioned in her statement.

“All the facts pertaining to the case will be kept before the public by our police soon,” the MLA promised urging people to see to it that such incidents do not happened in future.

Background

It could be recalled here that Naushida, wife of Khadar, a resident of Keyyur, Madavu in Puttur taluk had claimed on September 25 that she had been kidnapped by miscreants in a Scorpio. She had alleged that the kidnappers had taken her to a deserted place and attempted to rape her. However, she managed to escape.

However, police inquiry has reportedly proved that all the claims of Naushida were false and baseless.

Mangaluru: The Mangaluru CEN police have arrested a 23-year-old man for allegedly posting provocative and misleading content on an Instagram page named “mr_a_titude”, targeting the Bajpe police.

Mangaluru Commissioner of Police Sudheer Kumar Reddy C H identified the arrested as Abhishek M, a resident of Katipalla in Mangaluru.

A case has been registered at the Bajpe Police Station under Sections 353(1)(c), 353(2), 56, and 57 read with Section 189 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in connection with the post.

According to police, the accused uploaded a photograph of a hotel on the Instagram page and alleged that accused persons in a murder case under the Bajpe police jurisdiction were being given “royal treatment” by the police, including being served beef meals daily from the hotel.

The post further accused the police of supporting criminals, misusing their authority, and betraying public trust. Police said the content was provocative in nature and aimed at inciting public outrage against the police.

Following the post, a case was registered at the Bajpe police station, and further investigation was transferred to the CEN police station.

Police records indicate that the accused has a criminal history, with multiple cases registered against him, including murder, attempt to murder, assault, and robbery at the Surathkal Police Station, and one case at the Kaup Police Station.

The Commissioner said the accused was traced and arrested using technical evidence.
