Mangalore, Nov 18: Following the hour-long address by Gujarat chief minister and BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi at a rally which was held in Bangalore on Sunday, veteran Congress leader B Janardhan Poojary on Monday lashed out at the claims made by Modi in the rally.

Addressing mediapersons here on Monday, Mr Poojary rebuked the claim made by Modi that the NDA government was behind the development of IT sector in Bangalore. Modi has claimed that it was under the NDA government that the IT industry saw a growth of 30 percent, which declined to 9 percent during UPA government's tenure. But, the growth and development of the IT sector in Karnataka were achievements made by the then-chief minister S M Krishna. This fact was even vouched by the then-Prime Minister A B Vajpayee, he said.

Is Modi'married'?

He said that the prime minister aspirant Modi was also indulging in low-grade politics. “Modi has made a personal attack on Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi regarding her illness and has spoken about her personal life in an insulting manner. However, we (Congress party) will attack you in a legal way,” he cautioned, and raised questions on Modi's marital status and the whereabouts of his wife, claiming that Modi's marital status had been listed as'married' in his bio-data and also in the voter's list.

“The nation wants to know why he has hidden this information from the people. If you fail to disclose the information soon, we will reveal it ourselves,” he cautioned Modi.

Social development nil in Gujarat

On the social development claimed by Modi in Gujarat, Mr Poojary said that Modi had set out to develop merely industrial giants in the state and was blind to the problems and development of the poor and unprivileged. With regard to development of infrastructure, Gujarat ranks tenth in the country. The percentage of nourished children in the state is merely 45, he said.

“A foreign marketing agency was roped in for image-building and publicity of Modi, on which a sum of 25,000 US dollars is spent every month. However, you have set out to divide the country. People will not vote for you,” he told Modi.

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Air India Express has announced that it will resume direct flight services between Mangaluru and Muscat from March 2026, restoring an important international air link for passengers from the coastal region.

Airport authorities said the service will operate twice a week—on Sundays and Tuesdays—from March 1. The initial flights are scheduled on March 3, 8 and 10, followed by March 15 and 17, with the same operating pattern to continue thereafter. The flight duration is approximately three hours and 25 minutes.

The Mangaluru–Muscat route was earlier operated under the 2025 summer schedule, with services beginning on July 14. At that time, Air India Express had operated four flights a week before suspending the service.

Officials said the summer schedule will come into effect from March 29, after which changes in flight timings and departure schedules from Mangaluru are expected. Passengers have been advised to check the latest schedules while planning their travel.

The resumption of direct flights to Muscat is expected to significantly benefit expatriates, business travellers and others, further strengthening Mangaluru’s air connectivity with the Gulf region.

Mangaluru, Dec 7: A 34-year-old fruit and vegetable trader in Mangaluru has reportedly lost ₹33.1 lakh after falling victim to an online investment scam run through a fake mobile app.

Police said the scam began in September, when the victim received a link on Facebook. Clicking it connected him to a WhatsApp number, where an unidentified person introduced a high-return investment scheme and instructed him to download an app.

To build trust, the fraudster asked him to invest ₹30,000 on September 24. The trader soon received ₹34,000 as “profit,” convincing him the scheme was genuine. Over the next two months, he transferred money in multiple instalments via Google Pay and IMPS to different scanner codes and bank accounts shared by the scammers. Between September 24 and December 3, he ended up sending a total of ₹33.1 lakh.

When he later requested a refund of his investment and promised returns, the scammers demanded additional payments, claiming he needed to pay a “service tax” first. Even after he paid a small amount, no money was returned, and the scammers continued pressuring him for more.

A case has been registered at the CEN Crime Police Station.

While monitoring social media activity on Tuesday, Kankanady Town PSI Anitha Nikkam identified the Instagram handle ‘team_targetttt_900’ for posting a hate message alongside images of lethal weapons. Another account, ‘team_nagara_900’, allegedly shared a threatening post targeting activist Bharath Kumdelu, tagging additional pages such as KARAVALI-OFFICIAL.

Several other accounts — including ‘immu_bhai.fan’, ‘target_boy_900’, ‘kings_of_manglore’, ‘team_target_boys.900’, ‘arshad_mangalore’, ‘target_ka19_ullal’, ‘team_target__’, ‘troll_tigersz_900’, ‘tr_group_900’, and ‘team_target_900’ — are also under scrutiny for spreading similar inflammatory material, police said.

Authorities have urged citizens, especially young social media users, to report suspicious pages and avoid engaging with groups that glorify violence or threaten individuals. Online hate can quickly escalate into real-world harm, and police stress that sharing or promoting such content can attract legal consequences.
