The 15-year-old victim is a class X student and the only daughter of her parents, who are agriculture labourers in the village.

The incident came to light after a villager found the girl lying unconscious at a farm on the outskirts of the village around 11 pm on Sunday. He identified the girl and informed her parents who rushed to the spot and shifted her to a private clinic in the village.

Doddabelavangala police said that the doctor at the clinic had confirmed rape and referred the girl to Nelamangala government hospital. The victim was later shifted to Nelamangala hospital in the early hours of Monday, where doctors treated her and alerted the police. Doddabelavangala police have recorded the girl's statement.

Sridhar, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Bangalore Rural district, who is heading the probe, said the girl had named two men from the village who had raped her.

In her statement, the girl has said that she had gone to attend a music event organised as part of Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations near the bus stand in the village on Sunday evening.

According to her, she was returning home from the programme around 10:30 pm when the power went off and there was pitch darkness. Two youths of the village - Raju (26) and Vinay Kumar (20) - both known to her, offered her a soft drink.

According to the statement, the girl was forced to consume the soft drink after which she felt drowsy.

She has also stated that the duo were accompanied by two other men who dragged her into the adjoining farm and gang-raped her.

Based on her statement, a special police team sprang into action and detained Raju and Kumar, both construction workers.

Police have also detained four others who were with the duo. They are also verifying whether the soft drink allegedly given to the girl was laced with drugs.

V Ramesh, Superintendent of Police, Bangalore Rural district, said that the investigation was on and no arrests were made yet. He said that medical examination of the girl was conducted at Doddaballapur government hospital.

Sources said the medical report had confirmed rape. He further said that the girl's condition had improved by evening and she was discharged from the hospital.

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Air India Express has announced that it will resume direct flight services between Mangaluru and Muscat from March 2026, restoring an important international air link for passengers from the coastal region.

Airport authorities said the service will operate twice a week—on Sundays and Tuesdays—from March 1. The initial flights are scheduled on March 3, 8 and 10, followed by March 15 and 17, with the same operating pattern to continue thereafter. The flight duration is approximately three hours and 25 minutes.

The Mangaluru–Muscat route was earlier operated under the 2025 summer schedule, with services beginning on July 14. At that time, Air India Express had operated four flights a week before suspending the service.

Officials said the summer schedule will come into effect from March 29, after which changes in flight timings and departure schedules from Mangaluru are expected. Passengers have been advised to check the latest schedules while planning their travel.

The resumption of direct flights to Muscat is expected to significantly benefit expatriates, business travellers and others, further strengthening Mangaluru’s air connectivity with the Gulf region.
