Mangaluru, Feb 25: The usage of communally-provocative banners and posters can be seen put up in several places in Mangaluru and others parts of the district as part of promotional activities for upcoming Virat Hindu Samajotsav. One such poster calls upon people to shed their blood to build “Hindu” nation.
In between this, few miscreants are said to have set fire to one such banner put up in Panjimogaru late on Monday night. A case has been registered in connection with this at Kavoor police station.
It is alleged that on one hand, attempts are being made to spoil the harmony by putting up banners inciting communal hatred in the region, while on the other, attempts to spoil the harmony are also being made by burning the banners.
It has been reported that banners put up in Farangipete, Puttur and Pilar in the name of Hindu Samajotsav had been set on fire by miscreants.
Although several like-minded organisations have submitted a memorandum to the police department urging the removal of banners inciting communal hatred put up by the organizers of Hindu Samajotsav, the police officials have not taken any action in this regard.
Locals are of the opinion that several untoward incidents could be avoided if the police take appropriate action in this regard. They have complained that the police had not taken any action against the communally-inciting poster put up in Hampankatta in the heart of the city.
