U T Khader goes into self-quarantine

Mangaluru, Aug 2: Former Minister and Mangaluru City MLA U T Khader has gone into self-quarantine after former MLC Ivan D’Souza tested positive for coronavirus. 

Mr D’Souza had met Mr Khader and many other Congress leaders a day before receiving his throat swab test results. 

Mr Khader announced on twitter: “Have gone into self-quarantine with immediate effect after receiving the news about #Covid_19 positive test of Former MLC Ivan D’Souza & his wife Dr Kavitha. Being COVID Incharge DK District taskforce committee, I am one among Ivan's primary contact.”

“I am going to discharge my duties from home for the next few days. You can reach out over phone at any point of time. I appeal to all my colleagues and friends who may have come in contact with us in the last few days to get tested for #Covid_19” he tweeted.

Mangaluru, Nov 27: Former MLC and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) spokesperson Ivan D'Souza said that free Covid-19 vaccines should be provided in Karnataka. Notably, during the Bihar Assembly elections, BJP had announced distribution of free coronavirus vaccines in the state.

He said that vaccines should be administered to all without any discrimination after administering it to coronavirus warriors first, before adding that the BJP-led state government should provide Rs 5 lakh compensation from the Chief Minister’s relief fund to BPL families who succumbed to Covid-19 infection.

"Dakshina Kannada has reported 705 Covid-19 fatalities, of which a majority of them hail from BPL. Already, the government has raised funds in the name of relief. It is not difficult for the government to pay compensation," he said.

He accused that the government of not making any preparations to tackle second wave of Covid-19 pandemic. "The government should conduct free Covid-19 tests in all the nine labs in the district," he said.

Dakshina Kannada district Congress Covid-19 Helpline (Arogya Hasta) and entrepreneur Vivekraj Poojary donated 10 pushcarts to the needy. The beneficiaries are Mohammed Aman, Varija K, Padmavathi Kamathara, Kiran Valencia, Yakub Adyar, Bhavanishankar Yeyadi, K Chandrika Kodikal, Mohammed Farooq, Renuka Panjimogaru and Nazima Arkula.

To give students an insight into future competitive exams, irrespective of the field they pursue, CFAL is conducting an All-India level Scholarship Exam, Mangalore Talent Search Contest (MTSC) on December 06, 2020.

 The objective of this exam is to identify students who have the ability to clear National and international level exams, and also give them exposure to the kind of questions asked in these exams.  The last time India gave the PISA test in 2009, only students from Himachal Pradesh and Tamil Naidu attended the test and it ranked 72nd among 73 countries. Since then, there are a lot more changes done, and the current NEP is one of the steps to improve the quality of education in the country. India will try to give the PISA test in 2021 and probably will be restricted to the students of KV, Sainik schools and the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya. The MTSC gives exposure to students on the kinds of questions that are asked in those exams, its test the student’s critical thinking, logical reasoning, approach and concepts at various levels. It will be a centre-less exam, meaning that test takers do not have to go anywhere and can attend it from the comfort of their houses.

Students are required to register for free on www.learn.ignus.in, after which a User ID/password will be sent to them. To familiarize students with the test module, access will also be given to the previous years’ question papers once a student registers.

The questions will test the knowledge in Environmental science, Mathematics, Logical Reasoning for Class 5th and 6th  and students of Class 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th will be tested in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics and Logical reasoning. The Top students will be eligible for prizes worth Rs. 1, 00,000/- and scholarships to various programs at CFAL. All the registered students will also receive career guidance and mentoring sessions on how to prepare for other national level exams.

With India preparing to appear in the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) in 2021, exams like TIMSS and PIRLS and the New Education Policy emphasising on students’ participation at International competitions like Olympiads, examinations like MTSC aim to give students the right exposure to prepare them for such contests. MTSC will help students determine their strengths and understand where they stand at the national level, besides it also helps schools address their areas of improvement and suggest ways on how they could improve to help students succeed in International exams.

Bengaluru, Nov 25: Former Karnataka minister Roshan Baig, who was arrested two days back in connection with IMA scam, was on Wednesday morning rushed to prison hospital after he developed health issues.

As per the covid-19 protocol, he was kept in an isolation room of Parappana Agraha central jail. However, early morning he developed breathing issues and was immediately shifted to the prison hospital.

He has been put on oxygen support .

Baig has been accused of taking a bribe in the multi crore IMA scam.
