Mangaluru, Dec 18: All-rounder Nithin Mulky lived up to theresponsible captain' tag as he held his nerve to authoritatively guide United Ullal to a stimulating triumph over Udupi Tigers in the thrilling opener of the Mangalore Premiere League (MPL)-2016.

However, it was Mithrakanth Yadav who truly lived up to theall-rounder' tag. He not only hit a stylish half century but also emerged as the first player to take a hat-trick in the third edition of MPL. He was also the most successful bowler in the entire match (4/22).
The captain of Udupi Tigers, who won the toss did not think twice before opting for batting. The Udupiites soon found reasons to cheer as their top order batsmen began to punish the Ullal bowlers. Mohammed Asif (38) and Nagaraj (28) exhibited their presence of mind in the beginning.
In the final over, wherein Udupi Tigers had to increase their runs, faced an unexpected storm. Mithrakanth took three wickets of successive balls to leave Udupi placed at 157/9 in 20 overs.
Chasing a not-so-difficult target, the captain of United Ullal turned furious and hit 71 off 47 balls (retired not-out). Mathrakanth (53 off 37 balls) hit his 5th boundary on the first ball of the 19th over and it turned out to be the winning shot as the team's score reached 161.
Nithin-Mithrakanth duo that played the crucial role in the team's solid victory, shared the man (read men) of the match award.
