Mangaluru, Nov 11: Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs T B Jayachandra said that the state government would take a decision on banning tobacco and its products in Karnataka after the Supreme Court declared its verdict on the same.
He was speaking to mediapersons during his visit to the district Congress office here on Tuesday.
In the wake of rumours that the state government had passed an order banning the manufacture and sale of all chewing tobacco products in the state, the minister clarified that there was no proposal to impose ban on sale of beedi, cigarettes and areca products. The government has not passed any order to implement such a ban and will wait for the Supreme Court verdict before taking a decision in this regard, he said.
Mr Jayachandra, who handles the additional charge of the Muzrai portfolio in the state, said that the managing committees of the temples which fall under the Muzrai Deparment in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts, would be appointed after the completion of their tenure in March next year.
