Karwar, Aug 3: A non-resident Indian hailing from coastal Karnataka, has allegedly been abducted by extremists in Afghanistan.
Patson Rodriguez (39), who hails from of Christian Colony at Kadawad in Karwar taluk of Uttara Kannada district, has been working as a cook with a France based company in Kabul for the last 10 years.
Rodriguez's family members have confirmed that he was abducted on Thursday. The family members are attempting to get in touch with the Indian Embassy in Kabul.
"He would contact us daily. He told us on Thursday morning that he was leaving for office. Minutes later, local media reported the abduction of three foreigners in Kabul, including him," Alex D'Silva, a relative of Rodriguez said.
Rodriguez's wife and son Presley stay with his father in Karwar. He visited his family members on May 15 for his wedding anniversary and had left for Kabul on May 27.
Before working in Kabul, Rodriguez was a welder at Karwar. He obtained a degree in Hotel Management from a private college in Goa and went to Kabul. Rodriguez is the important breadwinner for the family.
"The district administration is yet to receive official communication regarding the abduction. We will contact the family and decided the future course of action once we receive the communication," Uttara Kannada deputy commissioner S S Nakul said.
