At a grievance meeting of sexual minority community held on Tuesday, CEO of zilla panchayat M Kanagavalli said that the members of the sexual minority community who had formed an association were the ones who came forward to avail government facilities, while those not part of the association would not come forward fearing social stigma.

She lamented that banks in the district were reluctant to provide loans to the sexual minorities and the issue ought to be taken up in the lead bank meeting. She also assured that she would discuss with the police department to provide safety to transgenders.

She urged the government officials to be effective catalysts in helping the sexual minorities avail government programmes meant for them.

The CEO also encouraged members of the sexual minority community to mention their mobile phone numbers so that they could be contacted without delay and help in availing the facilities and benefits meant for them.

The district electoral tahsildar recommended that the sexual minorities could enroll themselves in the electoral list and obtain EPIC cards, which would also help them in availing most of the benefits of developmental schemes without hassles.
