Mangaluru, Feb 19: A head-on collision between two over-speed buses left around two dozens of passengers injured near Kateel on the outskirts of the city on Thursday.
The condition of a few of the injured is said to be critical. Eye witnesses said that the drivers of both vehicles-a service bus and a tourist bus-were helpless in the accident-prone curve.
The private service bus was plying from Balavinagudde to Mangaluru via Kateel while the tourist bus was on its way to Dharmasthala from Kateel temple.
It is learnt that the driver of the service bus first lost control over his vehicle while negotiating a curve near Kateel temple and rammed into the oncoming bus.
As many as 15 tourists from Shira of Tumakuru district were there on board the bus, which was on a tour to religious centres in the state.
Many students, who were on board the service bus also sustained injuries in the accident and were taken to hospital.
Some of the injured have been identified as bus driver Manjunath, Dinesh, Vinitha, Jyothi, Soumya, Jyoti, Kaveramma, Gangadhar, Rajanna, Divya, Thimakka, Yashodhamma, Harish, Indira, Renuka, Kokila, Supriya and Mamatha.
