The CCB had conducted raids on seven job consultancy firms in the last week of September and arrested 26 men, unearthing a huge scam where more than 25,000 candidates were issued with such fake certificates and who have managed to secure lucrative jobs with reputed IT firms in cities such as Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai and Pune.

The CCB sleuths have made the names of the fake companies' public in order to alert the genuine companies that had employed such candidates. Notices along with this list have been sent to the genuine companies to get in touch with the investigating office in case if they stumble across such recruits.

“For the benefit of the genuine HR companies, we have compiled a list of the companies in whose names certificates were issued and were recovered by our men. This list is being put publicly so that genuine HR companies can check if anyone has approached them with such certificates and if so, contact the investigating officers for necessary corrective steps,” Abhishek Goyal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Crime said in his list of companies made public.

Based on an email tip-off, a constable was sent as a decoy to one of the consultancy companies and confirmed of wrongdoing. Subsequently, a special team including several senior police officials conducted raids on seven such firms. The sleuths also seized identity cards, visiting cards and other documents, high-quality seals and letter heads, computers, communication equipment, printers, scanners and laptops from these firms.

Mangaluru, Dec 20: City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy has issued a high-alert warning to vehicle owners regarding a surge in cyber fraud targeting those looking to pay traffic violation fines. Fraudsters are reportedly exploiting recent government discount schemes on traffic penalties to deceive citizens.

The Scam: How Fraudsters Strike

Criminals are using SMS, WhatsApp, and social media to circulate suspicious links and APK files (Android application packages). They claim these apps allow users to pay e-challans at a discount.

•    Device Hacking: Downloading these unauthorized apps gives hackers full access to the victim's smartphone.

•    Financial Theft: Once the phone is compromised, fraudsters intercept OTPs and personal data to drain bank accounts.

•    Phishing Sites: Fake websites mimicking official portals are also being used to harvest banking credentials.

Already, two residents within Mangaluru city limits have reported significant financial losses after falling victim to these fraudulent apps.
