Musliyar told reporters here that he would submit a memorandum in this regard to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in Mangalore on Sunday. Siddaramaiah and Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy are said to attend a mega rally being organised by the Sunni Management Association (SMA) and the Sunni Students' Federation (SSF) in the port city.
Congress leader and deputy chairman of the State Planning Board C?M?Ibrahim, who also spoke to the media on the occasion, said that providing reservation to Muslims was yet to be discussed within the government. “If the government agrees to the demand, we will never say no,” he said.
SSF?leaders assert that Muslims are underrepresented in the political sphere and hence should be granted reservation. According to Ibrahim, SMA will also submit a memorandum to the chief minister demanding a ban on the sale of liquor in Karnataka, on the lines of Kerala.
