New Delhi, Mar 4: The magisterial probe instituted by the Delhi government into the February 9 event in JNU has found that no Pakistan zindabad' slogans were raised. This is contrary to the only FIR registered in the case, which said that pro-Pakistan slogans were raised.
The report, prepared by New Delhi District Magistrate Sanjay Kumar, also found that even the police had “doubts” if such slogans were raised and were unclear about “who raised the slogans.”
“(The) police writes only “Pakistan Zindabad” in inverted commas while other slogans are mentioned without inverted commas. It is important to note that questions arise if this particular slogan was even raised because neither the slogan is clearly heard in (the) Zee News raw footage and nor in the transcripts of the JNU videos shot by the security staff.”
A policeman in civil dress was present during the event and later more personnel arrived in the campus to prevent any clashes between two student groups. The police was witness to the entire event and it did nothing to prevent the occurrence of any cognisable crime, the report said. “The FIR doesn't state that Umar Khalid or Kanhaiya Kumar raised anti-India slogans,” it said.
The probe also found that two JNU security officials went back on their statement on Umar Khalid.
At first the two, Devender Singh Bisht and Amarjeet Singh of G4S, accused Khalid of raising pro-Afzal Guru slogans.
“When I examined Devender Singh and asked him if he really heard these slogans from the mouth of Umar Khalid, he changed his statement. He admitted he did not specifically heard Umar Khalid uttering these slogans. He then attributed the slogans to the crowd,” the report said. Similarly, when Amarjeet Singh was cross-examined, he retracted from his statement. Amarjeet had earlier said that at 5:10pm Umar Khalid started shouting pro-Afzal Guru slogans.
