Thiruvanathapuram, Jul 13: Security agencies, airlines, Airports Authority of India (AAI) and passengers were on tenterhooks for over two hours on Tuesday night following anonymous calls that a passenger bound for Muscat from the Thiruvananthapuram international airport was carrying explosives.

Airport sources said it was around 7.05 p.m. that the Deputy Manager of the airport received a call that a passenger bound for Musact on Oman Air was smuggling brown sugar. Soon, the caller called up again to inform that a friend of the passenger was carrying explosives.
The CISF officials zeroed in on the passenger and his friend mentioned by the caller and they were thoroughly frisked. Airport Director George G. Tharakan said nothing suspicious was found during the checks and that the call turned to be a hoax.
The passenger, hailing from Kaniyapuram, was off-loaded and handed over to the City police. The police were present in large numbers in the domestic terminal on the Sanghumughom side in view of the departure of PDP supremo Abdul Nasir Maudany to Bengaluru around this time.
