Parameshwara celebrates 63rd birthday; says ready to take up any responsibility

August 7, 2014

Bangalore, Aug 7: State Congress president G Parameshwara said on Wednesday that he was ready to take up any responsibility given by the party high command, including that of the deputy chief minister, in the Siddaramaiah government.

He was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a function organised to mark his 63rd birthday. He, however, quickly added that he will not be disappointed if the party decides not to give him any.

Parameshwara's statement comes in the wake of Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T B Jayachandra indicating that he would be in the race for the post of deputy chief minister if the party decides to create one.

Asked about Jayachandra being in the race for the post, the KPCC chief said he (Jayachandra) was also a senior leader and that he had no objection if the party decides to give him the post.

He said he had the satisfaction of bringing the party to power in the 2013 Assembly elections as the State party chief. “I have served the party sincerely as a disciplined soldier for three decades. There are several leaders who have worked for the party. Their service should be recognised. I have full faith in the Congress leadership,” he said.

He said he had aspired to become the chief minister before the 2013 polls. There was nothing wrong in aspiring for a post in politics. But the decision of people in the constituency (Koratagere) was different, he added.

On the demand for revamping the council of ministers and dropping underperforming ministers, Parameshwara said the chief minister would decide whether to revamp or expand his ministry. He said he was not aware of the ministers who were not up to the mark.

Earlier, Parameshwara distributed uniforms and sweets to visually challenged students. Later in the day, he took part in a birthday function organised by the members of Akhila Karnataka Dr G Parameshwara Abhimanigala Balaga at the Palace Grounds.
