Mangaluru, Oct 8: Sri Esha Vittaldas, the pontiff of Kemaru Sandeepani Mutt and Rev. Fr John Fernandes, former head of the Christianity Chair at Mangalore University, have been conferred with Sadhbavana Samman' (goodwill awards) as part of the national-wide Peace & Humanity' organised by Jamaat-e-Islami Hind.

The awards were conferred at programme organised by the Dakshina Kannada district level reception committee of the campaign at the Town Hall on Friday evening in the presence of dignitaries from different faiths.
Speaking after receiving the award, Swamiji said that serving the people, helping the needy and poor etc are the common teachings of all religions. “Serving the humanity is equal to serving God,” he said.
Exhorting the people to uphold the communal harmony, he said that the true followers of two religions will never fight with each other. “Only those who don't follow their religion fight with the followers of other religion,” he said.
He said that religion never endorses hatred. “It is only adharma' that misleads people and allow them to indulge in conflicts and violence,” he said.
Fr Fernandes said, said that all should support those who work for communal harmony and promote brotherhood and co-existence. “Let us serve the society without expecting anything from anyone,” he said.
Dr CP Habeeb Rahman, chairman of Unity Academy of Education, Mohammed Kunhi, president, DK district unit of JIH, Dr Satyanarayana Mallipattana, president, DK district reception committee of the campaign, Umar U H, secretary of the reception committee were present on the occasion.
