Addressing a press conference here on Monday, he said that the BJP leaders were trying to mislead the people and voters by making false statements regarding the turnout for the rally. Such statements do not befit the person or the party. Moreover, these were published in a couple of newspapers, which might mislead the voters in the district and this is a violation of the code of conduct, he said.
The BJP leader Rukmaiah Poojary had earlier said in a press conference that the turnout in the Rahul Gandhi 's rally was relatively lower than the turnout for BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi 's rally in the city in February. Respective photographs were also shown on the occasion, which showed large numbers for Modi 's rally and comparatively fewer numbers for Rahul Gandhi 's rally.
Party spokesperson K Taranath Shetty said that the BJP leaders were indulging in politics of the lowest level by making such comparison. “The turnout was lower since we had only 3-4 days of preparation for the Congress rally, while there was preparation of about 15 to 20 days for Modi 's rally,” he said.
He also said that the complaint also named those BJP leaders who had induced such statements.
