Mangaluru, Oct 2: Dismissing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bharatiya Janata Party's Congress-free India' slogan as foolishness, freedom fighter Seraje K P Madan Master on Sunday said that political parties should not go away from the preachings and ideals of Mahatma Gandhi.

He was speaking after being felicitated during the Gandhi Jayanti celebrations outside the Town Hall the 99-year-old man from Perla, who had interacted with the father of the nation.
“I have followed his principles in my life. I was part of freedom movement under the guidance of M D Adhikari at Gandhi Park in Mangaluru in the first week of August 1942. When Adhikari was addressing the gathering, the police started lathi charge and he suffered injuries.”
About 20 persons were taken to custody, after which, I left for Kanyakumari and later to Nagercoil and joined Indian Railways. I have also worked in Military Railway wing. In 1946, I quit my job and returned to my native Perla and joined as physical education teacher,” he recalled.
Garlanding the statue of Gandhi, City Police Commissioner M Chandra Sekhar said several persons have sacrificed their lives for independence. There is a need to inculcate the values of Gandhian principles in our lives.
DC Dr K G Jagadeesha hoisted the flag on account of Gandhi Jayanthi at Balmatta College and flagged off Prabhath Pheri procession.
Additional DC Kumar flagged off a vehicle jatha by the Information department to spread the message of Gandhi.
At a stage programme, Badriya College principal Dr Ismail spoke on “Relevance of Mahatma Gandhi's thoughts today.” He said, the Cauvery issue can be resolved amicably by following Mahatma Gandhi's motherly attitude that will help foster compassion and brotherhood.
