Mangaluru, Nov 25: Home Minister K J George has said that Karnataka police are doing their best for security along the state's 360 km coastal border and if there is any threat from outside it is the responsibility of the defence forces to keep an eye on it.
Speaking to media persons here on Tuesday, he said that the government has given nod to appoint ex-servicemen also to run boats in Coastal Security Force, if necessary. About the promotion of police personnel, he said that there is no vacancy to promote head constables as ASIs. In the promotion of SIs and inspectors, the direct recruitment quota is already filled. However, he denied any SI post promotions pending and if so, promised of clearing it at the earliest.
The Home Minister denied the doubts that in Dakshina Kannada district police work under the pressure of elected representatives. Such allegations are common. The government has given free hand to police to act against law-breakers. Meanwhile, he said that the government not going to form new committee to investigate over Church attack incidents.
On increasing crime rate in Mangaluru, he said that police department has been facing dearth of staff. The government has directed the commissioner to tighten law and order, and submit a report after one month.
The Home Minister said that local police will take decision on Kiss of Love' protest organised by various organisations at Bengaluru, on November 29. The protest should be within the limit of law and order. It should not be obscene and should not disturb law and order of society. Meanwhile, he said that if anyone is against it, can complain with police, but no one can take law into their hands, he said.
On BJP's protest against tainted' ministers, George questioned what the criteria BJP is using to call Congress ministers tainted'. If any allegation is proved, Congress party never allows a person to continue in the post, he said.
