Vijayapura, Jan 4: Newly appointed Karnataka Home Minister M B Patil today said the police department officials tapping telephone conversations, other than most sensitive cases, will be screened and will face stiff punishments if the norms were not followed.
Speaking to press persons here, he said complaints over police officials seeking telephone conversations from competent authorities for cases that is not allowed under law, was not allowed.
Telephone tapping menace was evident in the past and it will be curbed in Karnataka.
‘’We will look into steps be taken in Karnataka and steps taken other states that initiated good measures against police in such circumstances,'' he said.
Political leaders and social activists in the State have alleged that their telephones were tapped by the home department.
This varied from BJP leaders alleging the Congress government, when it was in power, and Congress leaders also complaining such menace when the BJP government was in rule in Karnataka.
