Lucknow, Sept 26: In a fresh evidence for saffronisation of police department in Uttar Pradesh, a female medical student belonging to Hindu community was abused and assaulted by four policemen just because she had a male Muslim friend.

The higher officer had to suspend the four communal constables on Tuesday after a video of the incident went viral on social media.

The victim along with her male friend, also a medical student, had been handed over to the police allegedly by the vigilantes of Vishwa Hindu Parishad after they barged into his house on Sunday and manhandled both of them. The outfit did not approve of the friendship between the Hindu girl and Muslim boy.

The 29-second video clip from Meerut shows the student squeezed between two constables, including a woman constable, in the back-seat of a U.P. 100 police vehicle, even as two others sit in the front.

One of the personnel, later identified as a home-guard, shoots the video on selfie mode and is seen using foul and sexually abusive language towards her.

“Toh mulla zyada pasand aa raha (so you like a Mulla more)?,” he asks the student.

As she attempts to respond to him, the woman cop sitting on her right starts hitting her on her back and head, even as the male constable shames her with sexually coloured remarks for choosing a Muslim partner “despite being a Hindu.” The police personnel also forcibly remove the scarf from her face, revealing her identity.

Mangaluru police have arrested a 27-year-old NRI on his return from Saudi Arabia in connection with an Instagram post allegedly containing derogatory and provocative remarks about the Hindu religion, officials said on Monday.

The accused, Abdul Khader Nehad, a resident of Ulaibettu in Mangaluru, was working in Saudi Arabia when the post was uploaded, police said.

A suo motu case was registered at the Bajpe police station on October 11 after an allegedly offensive post circulated from the Instagram account ‘team_sdpi_2025’. Police said the content was flagged for being provocative and derogatory in nature.

During the investigation, technical analysis traced the Instagram post to Nehad, who was residing abroad at the time, a senior police officer said. Based on these findings, a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued against him.

On December 14, Nehad arrived from Saudi Arabia at Calicut International Airport in Kerala, where he was taken into custody on arrival. Police said further investigation is underway.
