Post-CET Helpline Centre opens at Sahyadri College

Mangalore, Jun 4: The Helpline Centre to assist students wanting to opt for professional courses post-CET and to verify their documents has been set up at Sahyadri College of Engineering, Adyar, Mangalore.

Addressing media persons at a news conference at the college premises on Tuesday, Jagajivandas Bhandary, Nodal Officer, Mangalore Helpline Centre, said that the centre is one among the 13 Helpline Centres set up by the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) in the state. The Mangalore Helpline Centre will be open from June 5 to 23 from 8 am to 9 pm.

Verification of students' documents pertaining to CET 2013 will be made at the centre. They will be trained on data feeding in computers with regard to opting of seats of their choice. Students appearing at the Helpline Centre will be given information about online seat distribution at the registration counter, besides explaining them their responsibilities.

Audio-visual presentations and information about feeding option entries in computers post-document verification will also be provided, Mr. Bhandary said.

Students will be enlightened in detail about the options before them after the final seat list is put out, with respect to accepting the seat, saving the seat and proceeding with the next round, surrendering of seats, participation in the next selection round etc, Mr. Bhandary said.

A telephone helpline 2275675 has also been set up in case students have any doubts to clarify with regard to the Helpline Centre.

Mangaluru, Dec 20: City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy has issued a high-alert warning to vehicle owners regarding a surge in cyber fraud targeting those looking to pay traffic violation fines. Fraudsters are reportedly exploiting recent government discount schemes on traffic penalties to deceive citizens.

The Scam: How Fraudsters Strike

Criminals are using SMS, WhatsApp, and social media to circulate suspicious links and APK files (Android application packages). They claim these apps allow users to pay e-challans at a discount.

•    Device Hacking: Downloading these unauthorized apps gives hackers full access to the victim's smartphone.

•    Financial Theft: Once the phone is compromised, fraudsters intercept OTPs and personal data to drain bank accounts.

•    Phishing Sites: Fake websites mimicking official portals are also being used to harvest banking credentials.

Already, two residents within Mangaluru city limits have reported significant financial losses after falling victim to these fraudulent apps.
