Mangalore, May 20: The charges of sedition and waging war against the state slapped on tribal boy Vittala Malekudiya, the Mangalore University student who has been arrested by ANF, are absurd, said Prakash Karat, General Secretary, CPI(M).

Speaking to mediapersons after meeting Mr. Vittala and his father Linganna Malekudiya at the Mangalore jail, the veteran Left leader said that charging cases of sedition and waging a war against the state against the father-son duo is ridiculous.

“The issue is in court and if necessary, we will challenge it in the Supreme Court too”, he said.

In the backdrop of the district court allowing Mr. Vittala to write his exams, Mr. Karat said that the tribal student's morale is high and he is looking forward to facing his exams.

Responding to a query about his party's stand on the Presidential candidate, Mr. Karat said that they are waiting for the ruling party to propose its candidate.
