Puttur, Feb 25: It is the duty of the respective mohallas to see to it that the Wakf property belonging to the Wakf Board is not misused, said Puttur MLA Shakunthala Shetty.

She said that priority was given to providing grants to masjids through the Wakf Board. Already, two masjids in Puttur taluk were given a grant of Rs 1 lakh, while another masjid was given a grant of Rs 50,000 for the construction of toilets.
Proposals have been sent to the government on the basis of priority. Through the grants provided by the government through the Wakf Board, each resident of the respective mohalla around the masjid should come forward to improve the mohallas, she said.
Speaking after inaugurating the programme, state Wakf Board member Y Mohammed Kunhi said that it was important for every masjid to be registered under the state Wakf Board.
