
Mangalore, Mar 27: For the first time in Mangalore, a programme on the mechanism and system of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) ' and its procedures - Arbitration, Conciliation and Mediation will be organised on Saturday.
Announcing this at a press conference here on Thursday, Assistant Secretary of International Centre for Alternative Dispute Resolution (ICADR), Regional Centre, Bengaluru C R Sundaresh said that the system of alternative dispute resolution was installed for the benefit of the larger public and to reduce the burden of courts. It is an existing old concept, but has now been modified to the needs of the people and to the tune of the courts, he said, adding that the main aim of the programme was to spread awareness among the advocates and public on the ADR mechanism.
He said that the keynote address on ADR Mechanism ' would be delivered by High Court judge and Executive Chairman of ICADR, Bengaluru Justice N Kumar. Dakshina Kannada Principal District and Sessions Judge B V Prakash will preside over the programme and president of Mangalore Bar Association Ashok Ariga will be the guest of honour. The keynote address will be followed by an interaction session, he said.
The programme is scheduled to be held at Court complex, Lighthouse Hill, Mangalore at 6.30 p.m. on Saturday.
The ICADR is a registered society working under the aegis of Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India, with the Chief Justice of India as its chief patron. It was established in 1995 to propagate, promote and popularize the settlement of domestic and international disputes by different modes of ADR.
The regional centre of ICADR in Bangalore was set up in 2002. There are several dispute-resolution procedures administered by the ICADR such as – negotiation, conciliation/mediation, mini-trial, arbitration and fast-track arbitration.
