Mangalore, Apr 4: Hitting out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for igniting flames of communal hatred and turning people of different religions against one another, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi said that the Congress party believed in the policy of love and brotherhood and would fight against the opposition parties which advocated hatred among religions.

Addressing thousands of Congress supporters gathered at Nehru Maidan in the city on Friday, the Nehru-Gandhi scion said that he had appealed to the Karnataka chief minister for the further development of Mangalore, which is already an educational hub in the state. While the city of Bangalore is already recognised internationally as a hub of IT sector, Mangalore should also become known overseas. The spheres of IT and education should be strengthened in Mangalore as the capability and potential here is huge, he said.

BJP turning a blind eye towards corruption '

Mr Gandhi said that BJP leaders, who were finding fault in Congress-ruled states, had turned a blind eye to the rampant corruption in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, where the saffron party is in power. While many governments have contributed to the development of Karnataka, the BJP created a record of corruption in the state. The problem of corruption is the gift of BJP, who call themselves the protectors of the Hindu society, he said, urging the people of Dakshina Kannada to defeat the saffron party.

BJP advocates politics of hatred '

Attacking the BJP for its ideology of divide and rule ', he said, “Hum pyar aur bhaichaar ki rajneeti (politics of love and brotherhood) karte hain, jabki vipaksh gusse ki rajneeti (politics of hatred) kartein hain. This is the old philosophy and ideology that Congress follows. However, the opposition continues to propagate politics of hatred and such politics leads to anger and resentment. Progress can be achieved only when there is peace and harmony among people,” he said and vowed to oppose BJP 's politics.

Congress has created jobs for youth '

Speaking on the party 's contribution to the people in the country, he said that the Congress party created the industrial corridors in between the five major metropolitan cities and dedicated freight corridors across the length and breadth of the country to create more jobs and employment for the youth.

“The Congress wants to empower the people of India, while the BJP wants one individual to rule the country. They want a sentinel to guard the country, although our country does not need one. It is sufficient to empower the existing sentinels and armed forces who protect the country,” he said.

Future belongs to the poor '

Making promises of a better state for the people, he said, “We want the future of India to belong to the lower sections of the society. We want to ensure the Right to Health ' for every poor family in the country and more universities for educating their children. We also want to ensure them the right of pension and provide every poor family with a roof over their head.

He said that after the UPA III was brought to power in the country, the youth and women of Karnataka would jointly bring the state back on its track of progress.

He was accompanied by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, KPCC chief G Parameshwar, Union minister Oscar Fernandes and others.

Mangaluru police have arrested a 27-year-old NRI on his return from Saudi Arabia in connection with an Instagram post allegedly containing derogatory and provocative remarks about the Hindu religion, officials said on Monday.

The accused, Abdul Khader Nehad, a resident of Ulaibettu in Mangaluru, was working in Saudi Arabia when the post was uploaded, police said.

A suo motu case was registered at the Bajpe police station on October 11 after an allegedly offensive post circulated from the Instagram account ‘team_sdpi_2025’. Police said the content was flagged for being provocative and derogatory in nature.

During the investigation, technical analysis traced the Instagram post to Nehad, who was residing abroad at the time, a senior police officer said. Based on these findings, a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued against him.

On December 14, Nehad arrived from Saudi Arabia at Calicut International Airport in Kerala, where he was taken into custody on arrival. Police said further investigation is underway.

Mangaluru, Dec 20: City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy has issued a high-alert warning to vehicle owners regarding a surge in cyber fraud targeting those looking to pay traffic violation fines. Fraudsters are reportedly exploiting recent government discount schemes on traffic penalties to deceive citizens.

The Scam: How Fraudsters Strike

Criminals are using SMS, WhatsApp, and social media to circulate suspicious links and APK files (Android application packages). They claim these apps allow users to pay e-challans at a discount.

•    Device Hacking: Downloading these unauthorized apps gives hackers full access to the victim's smartphone.

•    Financial Theft: Once the phone is compromised, fraudsters intercept OTPs and personal data to drain bank accounts.

•    Phishing Sites: Fake websites mimicking official portals are also being used to harvest banking credentials.

Already, two residents within Mangaluru city limits have reported significant financial losses after falling victim to these fraudulent apps.
