Mangalore, Jul 6: Moderate to heavy monsoon showers on Saturday night and early hours of Sunday further cooled Mangalore and other parts of coastal Karnataka. The rains have revived the hope of farmers to some extent.
It has been drizzling for the last two days in Dakshina Kananda, Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts of coastal Karnataka.
Moderate rainfall has been reported in the coastal, Malnad and semi-arid regions of the district.
Bhatkal, Ankola and Karwar have been receiving good rainfall while it has been drizzling in Honnavar and Kumta. Dank weather continued to prevail in the Malnad region. While it drizzled in Sirsi, Siddapur, Haliyal, Mundagod and Joida, and Yellapur received light rainfall.
Many other parts in the state also received good rain in the last couple of days.
In Mysore district, monsoon showed signs of revival with the region receiving good rainfall on Saturday.
Maximum rainfall in the region was recorded at Jayapura hobli in Mysore taluk, parts of which recorded 104.5 mm of rainfall. In other parts of the district, Muguru in T Narasipura taluk received 69.5 mm, parts of K R Nagar taluk received 39.5 mm and Bilikere in Hunsur taluk recorded 43.1 mm rainfall. Mysore City also recorded good showers during the day with 18.5 mm rainfall.
In Chamarajanagar district, parts of Kollegal taluk received 92 mm of rainfall. Parts of Yalandur recorded 45 mm, Gundlupet, 21.5 mm and Chamarajanagar taluk, 38.7 mm of rainfall during the day.
Hassan district too received good showers with Holenarasipura taluk recording a highest of 36 mm rainfall. Parts of Hassan taluk received 23.5 mm rainfall, while Hassan City received 6.1 mm. Arsikere taluk (23.5 mm), Belur (6.5 mm) also received good showers. Rain was relatively sparse in Mandya district. While 19.5 mm of rain was recorded in Mandya taluk, K R Pet received 12.5 mm and Pandavapura, 9.5 mm of rain.
Yadgir and surrounding villages received heavy rain for more than an hour. Surpur, Shahpur, Gurumitkal, Kembhavi and Hunasagi taluks continued to remain dry. Two animals were struck by lightning at Arakera K village in Yadgir taluk, while farmers began sowing activities in the fields. Sowing has taken place only in 7,800 hectares of land in the district.
Alavandi, Betageri, Bochanalu villages in Koppal taluk received heavy rain for nearly two hours, while cloudy weather continued to prevail in Koppal and other taluks in the district on Saturday. Sowing activities have begun in the fields.
