Mangaluru, Feb 20: As a prelude to the Virat Hindu Samajotsava to be held in Mangaluru next month, a motorbike rally was organized by the Vishva Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal in the city on Friday.

The rally was flagged in front of the publicity office of Hindu Samajotsava near Bunts Hostel by Dakshina Kannada M P Nalin Kumar Kateel. Swami Rajashekarananda, the pontiff of Vajradehi Mutt, Ganesh Rao, the honorary president of Samajotsava Committee, Yogish Bhat, former Deputy Speaker of Legislative Assembly, were also present.

Addressing a formal programme prior to the flagging off ceremony, Mr Kateel praised the VHP and Bajrang Dal for their Hindutva ideology and activities.

The MP urged to people to join organisations like VHP and take part in maximum numbers in programmes organized by VHP including impending Samajotsa without any fear.

Speaking on the occasion, Rajashekarananda Swami lashed out the Congress government in Karnataka for not imposing ban on Popular Front of India (PFI) in Karnataka.

He went on to accuse PFI cadres of raising pro Pakistan slogans during a unity march organized by the outfit in Shivamogga on Thursday evening. He said that Congress government is protecting PFI and trying to curb Hindu organisations like VHP and Bajrang Dal. He said that PFI is an anti-Indian and pro-Pakistan organisation.

Swami also criticized Dakshina Kannada district-in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai for issuing warning to Hindu Samajotsava organizers against indulging in violence.

“Rai believes in minority vote bank. He does not want Hindu votes. Hindus of his constituency should teach him a lesson in next election,” he said.

The motorbike rally passed through Kadri Mallikatta - Balmatta - Ambedkar Circle, Hampankatta, State Bank, Market Road, Carstreet, New Chitra Talkies, Kudroli temple Road, Ladyhill, Lalbagh and PVS Circle before returning to Bunts Hostel.

Mangaluru police have arrested a 27-year-old NRI on his return from Saudi Arabia in connection with an Instagram post allegedly containing derogatory and provocative remarks about the Hindu religion, officials said on Monday.

The accused, Abdul Khader Nehad, a resident of Ulaibettu in Mangaluru, was working in Saudi Arabia when the post was uploaded, police said.

A suo motu case was registered at the Bajpe police station on October 11 after an allegedly offensive post circulated from the Instagram account ‘team_sdpi_2025’. Police said the content was flagged for being provocative and derogatory in nature.

During the investigation, technical analysis traced the Instagram post to Nehad, who was residing abroad at the time, a senior police officer said. Based on these findings, a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued against him.

On December 14, Nehad arrived from Saudi Arabia at Calicut International Airport in Kerala, where he was taken into custody on arrival. Police said further investigation is underway.
