Mangalore, Apr 1: Reacting to the complaints filed by BJP against him citing violation of election code of conduct, Congress Lok Sabha candidate from Dakshina Kannada B Janardhan Poojary said that he was ready to be paraded and imprisoned if he had violated the election code.
The BJP district committee had filed a complaint against Mr Poojary citing that his public announcement of promising reservation of for the poor among Brahmins and Gowd Saraswat Brahmins at a programme few days ago amounted to violation of moral code of conduct. Another complaint was filed against him for making assurances that the self-assessment property tax would not be hiked in the local city corporation limits.
Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Mr Poojary asserted that he had been advocating the need to provide reservations to Brahmins and GSBs who were economically backward for the past year. “My long-standing demand of reservation for all economically backward sections irrespective of their caste and creed, has been included in the party manifesto. Is it wrong to include it in the manifesto? Do the poor among Brahmins and GSBs not deserve reservation?,” he questioned the BJP.
He said that the local Congress manifesto had assured that the self-assessment tax would not be increased, and the party was keeping its promises. “Doesn 't the BJP manifesto include any promises?,” he pointed, challenging the BJP members to rebuff reservations for the poor, as well as increase the self-assessment tax in the local city corporation.
Modi 's silence deafening '
Launching yet another attack against the BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, he said that people still lived in poverty in Gujarat where Modi is the chief minister. Children below the age of five are suffering from malnutrition, and Gujarat ranks the highest in number of school dropouts among children. The country wants to know the reasons, but Modi remains silent on these issues, he said.
He demanded the reason for Modi 's deafening silence and prompted the BJP prime ministerial candidate to address the above issues in his upcoming rally in Udupi.
Mr Poojary also said that he would respond to the showcause notices served to him by the Election Commission.
