Mangaluru, Dec 24: Rubbishing the reports on police inaction after the Bajrang Dal activists forcibly stopped the screening of Shah Rukh Khan starrer 'Dilwale' at various multiplexes and theatres in Mangaluru, the top cop of the city said that the police had already offered security for the movie screening.
Addressing media persons S Murugan, Commissioner of Police, said that police were investigating whether Bajrang Dal activists took law into their hands after a complaint was registered at Mangaluru South Police Station based on a complaint submitted by a social activist.
He said that necessary action would be taken against those who try to disrupt law and order and cause inconvenience to the public.
Mr Murgan made it clear that police were not responsible for the theatre owners’ decision to not to resume the screening of the movie.
“We also held a meeting with the theatre owners and assured them to provide necessary security if they wish to screen the movie again. However, they have not taken any measures to resume the movie screening,” he said, adding that the cops were always ready to provide security.
It could be recalled here that the activists of Bajrang Dal staged protest against multiplexes and theatres in Mangaluru and forced them to stop the screening of Dilwale on December 20.
Cinegoers were visibly distressed by the incident and the multiplex managements panicked and cancelled the subsequent shows. As of now, the Dilwale’s screenings continue to be cancelled at the multiplxes and have not been revived by the managements.
