Belagavi, May 6: Karnataka Minister for Water Resources D K Shivkumar today announced that the State government is in principle accept Maharashtra’s demand for signing a permanent Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the sharing water for water between both States.
Addressing the media here on Monday after holding a meeting with the senior officials and elected representatives of Belagavi, Vijayapur, Bagalkot district over the issue of Maharashtra’s demand.
He said that Maharashtra State is demanding release of 4 tmc ft of water from Tubachi Babaleshwar Lift Irrigation Scheme in Vijayapura taluk to Jatt taluk in Sangli district. The demand is for of 2 Tmc ft of water during Rabbi and 2 tmc ft in Kharif season. In exchange, Maharashtra will release same quantum of water to Krishna river from Rajapur barrage during summer, he added.
