Mangaluru, Dec 2: In a gut-wrenching tragedy, two siblings including an expatriate worker who had recently returned from a Gulf country for his wedding were crushed to death after a speeding lorry rammed into their motorbike at Sattikallu in Bantwal taluk on Wednesday.

The victims have been identified as Ashiq (26) and his brother Shafeeq (23), sons of Putthaka from Kalladka.
It is learnt that Ashiq was recently engaged after his arrival from Gulf and his wedding was scheduled to take place within some days.
The accident occurred on Bengaluru-Mangaluru National Highway when the duo was riding towards Mngaluru from the direction of Uppinangady.
The driver of a sand-laden lorry, which was plying from Mangaluru towards Uppinangady, in his bid to overtake another vehicle, took to the extreme right all of a sudden and knocked down the motorbike.
Both the brothers breathed their last on the spot due to grave injuries and excessive bleeding.
The rash and negligent driving on part of lorry driver is said to be the reason for the tragedy. Soon after killing the duo, the lorry driver fled the spot leaving behind his vehicle in the middle of the road.
The local residents, who witnessed the tragedy, staged a protest on the road and blocked all sand-laden lorries on the highway. Police had to intervene to bring the situation under control. A case has been registered at Puttur traffic police station.
