Udupi, Mar 13: A 22-year-old, who allegedly tried to rob a bank Halladi village in Kota police station limits in Udupi district on Thursday, was arrested by the police.
The accused has been identified as Ajit Shetty (22). He threatened bank officials and demanded cash of Rs 50 lakh, before being arrested.
The Kota police said he came on a scooter and entered the Halladi branch of Syndicate Bank around 12.45 p.m. on Thursday. He went to the cashier, showed him a dummy pistol and demanded cash and gold ornaments.
The manager sent the cashier to locker room to get the jewellery. Meanwhile, the manager and others noticed that Shetty was trembling. They then overpowered him and handed him over to the police.
A case under Section 398 of IPC and Arms Act has been registered.
