Manjeshwar, Dec 6: Excise officials at the Manjeshwar border check-post on the outskirts of Mangaluru have recovered Rs 13 lakh in unaccounted cash from a bus passenger.

The seizure was made as the man, identified as Dhanaji Ramachandra Bhagat, said to be a native of Bikawadi in Maharashtra's Sangli district, was travelling on a Kottarakara-bound Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus around 12.45 a.m.
An inspection by a team, led by Excise Circle Inspector Haridas Palakkal, seized Rs.12 lakh in demonetised Rs.1,000 notes and Rs.1 lakh in Rs.500 notes from the man, who told the officials that he had boarded the bus from Mangaluru to Kannur on way from Maharashtra.
The man said that he was a jewellery dealer based in Kannur. However, he could not account for the money he was carrying in a plastic bag, excise sources said.
The man, arrested by the police under provisions of Cr.PC, would be produced before the Judicial First Class Magistrate court here.
The excise sleuths had seized Rs.20 lakh unaccounted currency from the check-post on Thursday last.
