Rs 3.5 crore to be distributed among students from Konkani communities

Mangaluru, Aug 18: Vishwa Konkani Student Scholarship Fund, established by World Konkani Centre, Mangaluru will award Merit Cum Means Scholarships worth Rs 3.5 crores to students from Konkani Communities in an award ceremony to be held on August 20 at 10.00 a.m. at T.V. Raman Pai Convention Centre, Kodialbail, Mangaluru. This day is also commemorated for inclusion of Konkani Language in 8th Schedule of our Constitution.

The Principal Patron of the Scholarship Programme T.V. Mohandas Pai, Chairman, Manipal Global Education will deliver the Keynote Address. A galaxy of eminent philanthropists such as Shri Sundeep V. Bambolkar, Jt. Managing Director, Indoco Remedies Ltd. Mumbai, Shri Ullas Kamath, Jt. Managing Director, Jyothy Laboratories Mumbai, Shri S.M. Syed Khaleelur Rahaman, Mentor, Anjuman Group of Institutions, Bhatkal, Shri Jayanarayan Bhat, CEO, Raycam Ltd. United Kingdom, Shri Rohan Monteiro, CEO, Rohan Corporation, Mangaluru and Shri Prakash Pai, Managing Director, Puzzolana Group, Hyderabad will be present on the occasion and award the scholarships to deserving students.

Vishwa Konkani Student Scholarship Fund: ‘Vishwa Konkani Student Scholarship Fund’ envisages grant of Merit Cum Means scholarship for students having Konkani language as their mother tongue. Instituted by the Mangalore based World Konkani Centre in the year 2010 as envisioned by the eminent thinker and corporate leader T.V.Mohandas Pai, the VKSSF has since then successfully raised and distributed over 8000 Scholarships to the tune of Rs. 8.0 Crores.

Eminent Konkani Philanthropists like Dr. Ranjan Pai, Dr. P. Dayanand Pai, Ramadas Kamath U., K. V. Kamath, M. Jagannath Shenoi, Ronald Colaco, Madam Grace Pinto, A. Annappa S. Kamath, Rohan Monteiro, Achuth Pai and Sons, Jaynarayana Bhat, Sandeep Shenoy, Aravind Rao, B. R. Bhat, T.D. Pai Pradeep G. Pai and many more have come forward in support of this fund.

Mangaluru, Dec 20: City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy has issued a high-alert warning to vehicle owners regarding a surge in cyber fraud targeting those looking to pay traffic violation fines. Fraudsters are reportedly exploiting recent government discount schemes on traffic penalties to deceive citizens.

The Scam: How Fraudsters Strike

Criminals are using SMS, WhatsApp, and social media to circulate suspicious links and APK files (Android application packages). They claim these apps allow users to pay e-challans at a discount.

•    Device Hacking: Downloading these unauthorized apps gives hackers full access to the victim's smartphone.

•    Financial Theft: Once the phone is compromised, fraudsters intercept OTPs and personal data to drain bank accounts.

•    Phishing Sites: Fake websites mimicking official portals are also being used to harvest banking credentials.

Already, two residents within Mangaluru city limits have reported significant financial losses after falling victim to these fraudulent apps.
