Kasaragod, Feb 2: A meeting of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to showcase its strength in the district was held here on Sunday amid tight security. The meeting urged the RSS volunteers to work for the prosperity of the nation.
Delivering the keynote address at the conclave held at the Government College grounds here, RSS Akhila Bharatha Karyakarini Sadasyan S. Sethumadhavan said the activities of the RSS, which came into being nine decades ago, were not effectively conveyed to the people, giving room for several misleading campaigns against the organisation.
Vast sections of Indian society had not been empowered through education. Misleading propaganda by various organisations had given rise to a lot of apprehension among the people, Mr. Sethumadhavan alleged. He said people should realise the misleading campaigns unleashed against the RSS.
Volunteers should undertake selfless efforts to usher in all-round prosperity. People belonging to other religious were quite safe in the pockets where the RSS enjoyed supremacy, he said.
Mr. Sethumadhavan underscored the need to promote organic farming to ensure sustainable development of the nation.
RSS activists numbering around 18,000 staged a route march from four localities in the town — Chengala; New bus-station premises; Uliyathadukka, near Madhur; and Ramdasnagar at nearby Kudlu; before converging at the meeting venue.
The local police were assisted by security personnel from outside the district.
