Retired Air Vice Marshal Ramesh Karnik, ex-army officers Harish Kumar and Bhagwan Shetty and ex-navy officer M C Bhadraiah were felicitated in the programme held at Lions Seva Mandir, Mallikatte in the city.

The programme was inaugurated by Lions Club district governor H S Manjunath Murthy.

Speaking after being felicitated in the Kargil Vijay Divas programme, AVM Ramesh Karnik said that the importance of India's freedom struggle and those in the armed forces who sacrificed their lives will be realised, only when people remember the history of the great country. Civil society forgets the contribution of soldiers as they take off their uniform, although the armed forces should be recognized for their immense contribution to this country and they have participated in most of the wars, he said.

He urged parents to encourage their children and provide them with the opportunity of enrolling themselves in the National Defense Academy.

On the occasion, an inter-school workshop on patriotism and national pride was conducted. The workshop consisted of interactive discussions, quiz competition, patriotic songs, and audio-visual display of war scenes with the benefit of students from several schools.

Zilla panchayat CEO Tulasi Maddineni presided over the programme.

Association president Col N S Bhandary, general secretary S M Airan, war veteran Brig I N Rai, Lions Club president C P Dinesh, convenor of CIL Sachita Nandagopal and others were present.
