Bengaluru, Sept 6: When a large number of intellectuals and activists from across the country gathered in Bengaluru on Wednesday for the ‘Freedom of Expression’ convention to mark the first anniversary of the martyrdom of journactivist Gauri Lankesh, her opponents staged a counter protest.
Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS), an affiliate of Sanatan Sanstha, took out a protest march against any proposal to proscribe Sanatan Sanstha.
The police had a tough time preventing a face-off between the HJS rally and the Raj Bhavan Chalo rally organised by Gauri Lankesh Balaga, as both were held in the same area at the same time.
Some participants in the rally organised by HJS raised slogans in praise of accused arrested in connection with the murder of Gauri Lankesh including Parashuram Waghmore, the person who allegedly shot her.
The protesters went on to claim that that innocent Hindus are being fixed in the case. They said that Waghmore is a true Hindu and a true nationalist and not a terrorist. “The Hindu activists arrested in Gauri murder case should be released,” they demanded.
