Mangalore, Jul 28: Sahayog Job Fair – 2013 organised by Department of Higher Education and SDM Business Management College for graduates from Government colleges under Mangalore University was held at SDM College campus, Mangalore on Sunday.

Speaking after inaugurating the job fair, Minister for Higher Education and Tourism, RV Deshpande said that job seekers have to set themselves apart in terms of quality and it will be possible only when educational institutions emphasise on quality.

"Success of students depend largely on their teachers. The world is becoming competitive and job seekers have no other way but to fortify their knowledge while they enter the job market. The dynamics here are simple. The companies choose only what they want and not what the job seekers have. Curriculum and study materials have to be more realistic and related to consumer practices," he opined.

Speaking on higher education in state, the Minister said that the state has 70 percent of youth between 18-25 age group but only 17 percent of youngsters are pursuing higher education. "Having 53 percent of youth without higher education is not a good sign for Gross Domestic Production,” he said.

Speaking on the occasion Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari, Dr Veerendra Heggade said, “during 1970's youth had no job opportunities and opening a college during that time was like creating employment.

"Today the situation has changed. Educated youth have ample job opportunities but they do not know what job to choose”, he said.

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Air India Express has announced that it will resume direct flight services between Mangaluru and Muscat from March 2026, restoring an important international air link for passengers from the coastal region.

Airport authorities said the service will operate twice a week—on Sundays and Tuesdays—from March 1. The initial flights are scheduled on March 3, 8 and 10, followed by March 15 and 17, with the same operating pattern to continue thereafter. The flight duration is approximately three hours and 25 minutes.

The Mangaluru–Muscat route was earlier operated under the 2025 summer schedule, with services beginning on July 14. At that time, Air India Express had operated four flights a week before suspending the service.

Officials said the summer schedule will come into effect from March 29, after which changes in flight timings and departure schedules from Mangaluru are expected. Passengers have been advised to check the latest schedules while planning their travel.

The resumption of direct flights to Muscat is expected to significantly benefit expatriates, business travellers and others, further strengthening Mangaluru’s air connectivity with the Gulf region.
