Mangaluru, Nov 24: Veteran Congress leader and former union minister B Janardhana Poojary has said that excess activism like organizing kiss fest' in protest against moral policing may lead to greater problems in future.

The remarks came after Bengaluru city police commissioner M N Reddi warned that no individual or organisation opposing the Kiss of Love event – proposed to be held on November 30 in Bengaluru– can take the law into their hands to stop it.

Responding to the queries of media persons, Mr Poojary said that people of Karnataka will never accept organizing events like kiss of love. “Government should not allow it,” he said.

He said that one kind of excess activism (moral policing) cannot be countered by another kind of excess activism (Kiss of Love). Organizing such an event amounts to outraging the modesty of a woman, thereby attracting penal provisions, he opined.

He said that if the activists went ahead with the event, the government should arrest them and take action as per law.

“I have already conveyed my views to the chief minister through MLC V S Ugrappa and I hope that Mr. Siddaramaiah will not allow the event,” Mr Poojary said adding that if it is allowed, it would have serious repercussions and might get imitated in schools and colleges and even in government offices, he claimed.

Mr Poojary warned that it would give fresh ammunition to Sangh Parivar outfits. In fact the Sangh Parivar wants the event to be held so that it can come to limelight again, he said.
