The victims have been identified as Advocate Wazeer Ahmed, 31, his 8-month-old-child Nihan and former’s sister Kamarunnisa, 35. The family hails from Salmara in Puttur taluk of Dakshina Kannada district.

Kamarunnisa's husband Jabbar, 42, was seriously wounded and sustained multiple fractures on his legs. He is being taken to Tabuk hospital for further treatment.

Adv. Wazeer was working as Marketing Manager in a company in Jubail, the industrial city of Saudi Arabia. Before flying to Middle East, he was doing legal practice in Puttur.

The mishap took place due to a tyre burst near Hakal, 220 kms from Tabuk city. After performing Umrah in Makkah and visiting the holy city of Madeenah, the family members had planned to pay a visit to historical places near Hakal, located near Egypt border in their Fortuner car.

The impact of the tyre burst was such that the car turned upside down and completely crushed in the desert. There were nine people on board the car including Wazeer's cousin brother Shareef Nirkaje Jeddah and four children. Except Jabbar, others sustained minor injuries.

The dead bodies were kept in a hospital in Hakal. The injured were under treatment in the hospital. A few legal formalities need to be effectuated in order to dispose the bodies.

Majeed Padubidri and others from the Indian Social Forum (ISF) Tabuk unit rushed to the spot and helped the patients in the hospital and in arranging the shifting of the mortal remains.

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Air India Express has announced that it will resume direct flight services between Mangaluru and Muscat from March 2026, restoring an important international air link for passengers from the coastal region.

Airport authorities said the service will operate twice a week—on Sundays and Tuesdays—from March 1. The initial flights are scheduled on March 3, 8 and 10, followed by March 15 and 17, with the same operating pattern to continue thereafter. The flight duration is approximately three hours and 25 minutes.

The Mangaluru–Muscat route was earlier operated under the 2025 summer schedule, with services beginning on July 14. At that time, Air India Express had operated four flights a week before suspending the service.

Officials said the summer schedule will come into effect from March 29, after which changes in flight timings and departure schedules from Mangaluru are expected. Passengers have been advised to check the latest schedules while planning their travel.

The resumption of direct flights to Muscat is expected to significantly benefit expatriates, business travellers and others, further strengthening Mangaluru’s air connectivity with the Gulf region.
