Mangaluru, Nov 24: Ibrahim Kodichal, a prominent Muslim leader in Dakshina Kannada, who is also the ad-hoc president of the District Congress committee, has called Social Democratic Party of India a communal outfit.

“SDPI is a communal outfit. It is a political party grown out of a communal organisation,” said Mr Kodichal said at a press meet in the city.

He said that SDPI and saffron organisations indulged in accusations and counter-accusations against each other, disrupting the peace and harmony in the district.

He said that intolerance was a concern for the country, which the Congress party condemned. It is essential to establish a peaceful environment if projects like Smart City project should be implemented in the district.

All political and social leaders should realise this and stop making inflammatory speeches to provoke sentiments and should proclaim messages of communal harmony instead, he urged.

In anticipation of the upcoming Legislative Council, Zilla panchayat and taluk panchayat elections, the selection of candidates contesting from Congress has begun. The candidates for Legislative Council elections will be selected by the party high command, while the candidates for zilla panchayat and taluk panchayat elections will be selected by the District Congress Committee, he said, adding that meetings were held by various units of the party in this regard.

District Congress vice president KB Balaraj Rai, former Mayor Shashidhar Hegde, district Congress women's unit president Mamata Gatty, Padmanabha Naringana, Mithun Rai and others were present in the press conference.

Mangaluru, Dec 20: City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy has issued a high-alert warning to vehicle owners regarding a surge in cyber fraud targeting those looking to pay traffic violation fines. Fraudsters are reportedly exploiting recent government discount schemes on traffic penalties to deceive citizens.

The Scam: How Fraudsters Strike

Criminals are using SMS, WhatsApp, and social media to circulate suspicious links and APK files (Android application packages). They claim these apps allow users to pay e-challans at a discount.

•    Device Hacking: Downloading these unauthorized apps gives hackers full access to the victim's smartphone.

•    Financial Theft: Once the phone is compromised, fraudsters intercept OTPs and personal data to drain bank accounts.

•    Phishing Sites: Fake websites mimicking official portals are also being used to harvest banking credentials.

Already, two residents within Mangaluru city limits have reported significant financial losses after falling victim to these fraudulent apps.
