Karwar, Mar 25: The Indian Navy has started a full scale search and rescue operation to look for its two officers who have gone missing after a Navy Dornier plunged into the sea off the Karwar coast.

“Last known position of the dornier was 25 nautical miles south South West off Goa (near Karwar) . One survivor has been rescued. Full scale search and rescue operation has been launched to locate two more officers (one pilot and one observer) , ” a release from the Navy read.
Of the two who are missing, one is a lady officer of the rank of the Lieutenant who was the observer on the dornier. Preliminary findings indicate that the plane developed some technical problems after which it plunged into the sea.
"Six Naval ships and four aircraft were immediately deployed for search which is still continuing to locate the two officers. The Navy has ordered a Board of Inquiry into the accident," a Navy press release said here.
The Dornier surveillance aircraft was on a routine training sortie when it 'ditched' at sea last night. The Naval air station at Goa lost communication with the aircraft at 10.02 PM, the release said.
The aircraft is feared to have ditched soon thereafter, it added.
