Seven PFI activists picked up from Bantwal taluk for Shivamogga violence

Bantwal, Feb 26: As many as seven activists of Popular Front of India have been nabbed in different parts of Bantwal taluk by the police in connection with post-PFI rally violence in Shivamogga.

However, the police have not yet revealed the names of the accused.

At least two persons were killed and several injured in the aftermath of a communal clash that erupted after miscreants pelted stones at a PFI rally on February 19.

Police sources said that they picked up the PFI activists in Bantwal on Tuesday night after watching the video footage of PFI rally and the clashes.

A team of police from Shivamogga rural station searched for them for two days at Kelaginapete, Kalladka and Farangipet in the taluk, it is learnt.

According to police, around 60 PFI activists from Bantwal were present during the clashes in Shivamogga.

Two persons residing around Kelaginapete here were arrested from railway station area at Kaikunje here, while five others were taken into custody from in and around Farangipet, sources said.

Meanwhile, cops are keeping a close watch on those who led the team of PFI activists from the taluk and also those who had been seen taking active part in the PFI rallies held at Shivamogga and Mysuru, sources said.

Mangaluru police have arrested a 27-year-old NRI on his return from Saudi Arabia in connection with an Instagram post allegedly containing derogatory and provocative remarks about the Hindu religion, officials said on Monday.

The accused, Abdul Khader Nehad, a resident of Ulaibettu in Mangaluru, was working in Saudi Arabia when the post was uploaded, police said.

A suo motu case was registered at the Bajpe police station on October 11 after an allegedly offensive post circulated from the Instagram account ‘team_sdpi_2025’. Police said the content was flagged for being provocative and derogatory in nature.

During the investigation, technical analysis traced the Instagram post to Nehad, who was residing abroad at the time, a senior police officer said. Based on these findings, a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued against him.

On December 14, Nehad arrived from Saudi Arabia at Calicut International Airport in Kerala, where he was taken into custody on arrival. Police said further investigation is underway.
