Mangaluru, Mar 14: An education department official in the city has said that he would not hesitate to recommend disciplinary action against a private school, which allegedly tried to cover up a rape case.

“Once I get the medical report of the child, I will immediately forward to the State government, recommending to initiate action against the school,” he said.
Earlier, Mangaluru City Police Commissioner S Murugan told Coastaldigest.com that he had received the medical report from the hospital confirming that the minor girl had been sexually abused.
Nikesh Shetty, chair person, Child Welfare Committee, said that the CWC has already registered a case in connection with the rape of an nursery student. He said that the CWC has obtained the complaint copy, in which the school van driver is accused of rape, from the police station.
Mr Shetty said that the CWC would meet next Wednesday to discuss on the issue and school management would also be summoned as they have violated the safety guidelines. He said that the child is recovering and responding to the treatment.
An nursery student of Mangalore One School, located near Thokkottu, on the outskirts of the city, was on Friday raped by the driver of the school van in which she was dropped home.
It is said the driver Madhukar Shetty-who was later arrested by the police-forced himself on the girl after dropping home all other school children. However, the school authorities had initially rubbished the rape charge and tried to cover up the case, according to the family members of the victim.
