Bengaluru, Feb 13: Refuting charges that he sent Sharanagouda, son of JD(S) MLA Naganagouda Kandakur, to Devadurga to meet state BJP president BS Yeddyurappa on the night of February 7 with the intention to trap him, chief minister HD Kumaraswamy insisted on Tuesday that it was BJP leaders who invited Sharanagouda to the Devadurga inspection bungalow.
“Sharanagouda got 25 calls on that night,” Kumaraswamy said during the debate on the clip. “Who called him? What was the urgency and necessity to meet my MLA in the middle of the night? I did not send him (Sharanagouda) to Devadurga. He was invited there. I only told him to go only after knowing that he is being pressured to meet BJP leaders.”
He also took exception to BJP members suggesting he might indulge in witch-hunt if an SIT investigates the issue. “I am the man who did not take any action against those who levelled Rs 150 crore bribery charge against me despite being the chief minister,” he said. “One of my cabinet ministers had levelled a murder charge against me and police had filed FIR against me. Even then I did not misuse my power. So be assured, the SIT probe will be very transparent and without any interference from the government.”
Referring to BJP’s attempt to raise the infamous cash for council seat case — an incident that occurred in 2014 — to corner him, Kumaraswamy said he was ready to face any kind of inquiry in the matter and dared BJP leaders to get the matter probed by the Union government.
“It is my party’s internal matter. The incident happened in my house and it is between me and my party worker. If you want an inquiry into it, I am ready for it. Don’t try to link it with the present case,” he said.
