Bantwal, Jun 23: The High Court of Karnataka on Friday granted bail to Sharief alis Mohammad Sharief (21), main accused in the Sharath Madiwala murder in Bantwal of Dakshina Kannada district in July last year.
Justice John Michael Cunha passed the order while allowing the petition filed by Sharief seeking bail. Earlier, the Sessions Court refused to enlarge him on bail, after he was arrested in August last year.
Arguing the case, B Lathif, advocate for the petitioner said that statements of witnesses were recorded in this case ten days after Madiwala was killed. He also claimed that investigating officials in the case had failed to put together concrete evidence against the accused. The bench, which recorded these statements, ordered release of the accused on bail.
Madiwala attacked by miscreants when he was about to close his laundry shop at B C Road on July 4, 2017. He was rushed to a hospital by a Muslim auto rickshaw driver. However, he was breathed his last after a couple of days.
