Siddaramaiah denotified Arkavathy land for party fund: Shettar

Bangalore, Jul 26: Illegal denotification reared its ugly head again as the Opposition BJP alleged in the Assembly on Friday that the Siddaramaiah government had denotified 541 acres of valuable land meant for Bangalore Development Authority's Arkavathy layout.

Leader of the Opposition Jagadish Shettar alleged that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had given the green signal for issuing denotification letter dated June 18, 2014, despite knowing that it was in violation of guidelines laid down by the Karnataka High Court for dropping land acquisition.

“The land has been denotified in the name of re-modification of the layout project and on the pretext of implementing a court order,” he alleged.

“The file (recommending denotification of land) had come to me when I was the chief minister in 2013. But I rejected it as it was against the guidelines. The denotification was done by this government in order to raise funds for the recent parliamentary elections,” he charged, triggering an uproar by Congress members.

The House witnessed a pandemonium as the BJP and the Congress members led by Shettar and Siddaramaiah, respectively, traded charges and indulged in heated arguments.

Shettar had come armed with documents and satellite imagery of the location of the proposed layout.

However, Siddaramaiah defended himself sayi¬ng that the denotification was done as per the court's direction.

Post-Sabarimala pilgrimage drinking party turns fatal in Udupi; youth killed in midnight brawl

Udupi, Dec 15: What was meant to be a post-pilgrimage gathering turned tragic in Padukere village of Brahmavar taluk, Udupi district, late Sunday night, when a clash among youths escalated into a fatal assault, leaving one man dead.

The victim has been identified as 30-year-old Santosh Mogaveera, a resident of Padukere.

According to preliminary information, the incident took place during a late-night drinking party involving a group of local youths who had recently returned after completing their pilgrimage to the Sabarimala shrine. An argument reportedly broke out among the group and soon escalated into a violent confrontation.

During the ensuing brawl, Santosh Mogaveera was allegedly assaulted and collapsed at the spot after sustaining serious injuries. He was rushed by local residents to a private hospital in Brahmavar, where doctors declared him dead.

On receiving information, senior police officials, including Brahmavar Circle Inspector Gopikrishna, Kota Police Sub-Inspector Praveen Kumar T, Station ASI Manthesh Jabagoudar, and head constables Pradeep and Ashok, visited the spot and conducted an inspection.

Police have taken four youths into custody in connection with the incident. A case has been registered at the Kota police station, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events leading to the death.
