Hassan, Sept 25: Former chief minister Siddaramaiah is capable of ensuring that the JD(S)-Congress coalition government will complete five years in power, according to former Prime Minister and JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda.

Speaking to reporters, Gowda said: “Siddaramaiah has assured me that the H D Kumaraswamy-led government will complete its full term. He further added: “Siddaramaiah and I are good friends. But, owing to a few differences, he joined the Congress.”

Seeking to underplay the squabbles within the Congress, which briefly threatened the existence of the state government, the former PM said, “Congress has a history of more than 130 years, and knows how to solve its problems. It is Yeddyurappa who must behave in a manner that behooves that of an opposition leader. Atal Bihari Vajpayee demitted office after a 13-day stint as the PM, but as an opposition leader, he was never involved in anything that lowered the dignity of the Parliament.”

Meanwhile, Siddaramaiah claimed BJP leaders were using black money to lure Congress-JD(S) legislators to their party fold.

“A friend of mine told me BJP leaders are ready to pay Rs 70 crore per MLA in Goa to keep their coalition government in power there,” Siddaramaiah said. “In Karanataka too, they (BJP leaders) seem to be adopting the same tactics to form the government.”

Siddaramaiah insisted the coalition government in Karnataka is stable and there is no danger to its survival.

Mangaluru, Dec 20: City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy has issued a high-alert warning to vehicle owners regarding a surge in cyber fraud targeting those looking to pay traffic violation fines. Fraudsters are reportedly exploiting recent government discount schemes on traffic penalties to deceive citizens.

The Scam: How Fraudsters Strike

Criminals are using SMS, WhatsApp, and social media to circulate suspicious links and APK files (Android application packages). They claim these apps allow users to pay e-challans at a discount.

•    Device Hacking: Downloading these unauthorized apps gives hackers full access to the victim's smartphone.

•    Financial Theft: Once the phone is compromised, fraudsters intercept OTPs and personal data to drain bank accounts.

•    Phishing Sites: Fake websites mimicking official portals are also being used to harvest banking credentials.

Already, two residents within Mangaluru city limits have reported significant financial losses after falling victim to these fraudulent apps.
