Siddu suffers from selective amnesia on Mahadayi issue: Naidu

Bengaluru: Sep 7: Urban?Development Minister M?Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday blamed the Congress for the non-resolution of the Mahadayi river water dispute.

Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, Naidu accused Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of suffering from ‘selective memory loss’ on the issue.

The Mahadayi river dispute has come to the fore with the people of North Karnataka staging agitations over the non-implementation of the Kalasa-Banduri project.

The project seeks to improve drinking water situation in Belagavi, Dharwad and Gadag districts.

It involves building barrages across Kalasa and Banduri, two tributaries of the Mahadayi river, to divert 7.56 tmc feet to the Malaprabha river. However, the project has failed to take off after Goa has raised objections to it.

Naidu pointed out that Siddaramaiah had blamed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not resolving the issue with Goa.

“I ?would like to remind him of what (AICC?President)?Sonia Gandhi had said on 30th May, 2007. Sonia Gandhi had then said that the Congress party will not allow the diversion of Mahadayi river water to North Karnataka.” Naidu said Siddaramaiah was well aware of the Sonia Gandhi’s statement but was putting the blame on Modi.

Meeting in Dharwad

Meanwhile, the State government has decided to meet with the elected representatives of Dharwad, Gadag and Belagavi districts and the officials on Monday on how to diffuse the situation in Mumbai Karnataka districts where Mahadayi agitation has paralysed life, reports from Hubballi. Water Resources Minister M B Patil will hold talks with people's representatives of the region and the officials on Mahadayi issue in Dharwad on Monday. The minister will also meet the farmers' leaders and the people in Nargund later in the day.

On Sunday, members of BJP Mahila Morcha, holding empty pots, staged a protest in front of Tahsildar office in Hubballi. They pressed the State government to file an interim application seeking for speedy implementation of the drinking water project.

Pro-Kannada organisations in Haveri, expressing their solidarity for Mahadayi movement, staged a roadblock on Sunday.

Meanwhile, life has returned to normalcy in Navalgund. The farmers didn't take to streets on Sunday. The traffic on Hubballi-Vijayapura Highway was smooth.

Melkar, Dec 17: The 17th Annual Day and Graduation Ceremony of Melkar Women’s PU and Degree College, themed “Fusion-2K25,” was celebrated with dignity and enthusiasm, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s academic journey. The programme reflected the college’s steadfast commitment to academic excellence, character building, and the holistic development of students.

The event was inaugurated by Mr. Asif Mohammed, whose presence greatly enriched the occasion. The celebration was further graced by the chief guests Mr. P. B. Ahmed Mudassir and Mr. Nissar Fakeer Mohammed, along with the distinguished guests of honour Mr. B. A. Nazeer and Mr. Ibrahim Gadiyar. In their inspiring addresses, the guests encouraged the graduating students and appreciated the dedicated efforts of the management, faculty, and students.
